Cryptanalysis of Feistel Networks with Secret Round Functions

چکیده
Generic distinguishers against Feistel Network with up to 5 rounds exist in the regular setting and up to 6 rounds in a multi-key setting. We present new cryptanalyses against Feistel Networks with 5, 6 and 7 rounds which are not simply distinguishers but actually recover completely the unknown Feistel functions. When an exclusive-or is used to combine the output of the round function with the other branch, we use the so-called yoyo game which we improved using a heuristic based on particular cycle structures. The complexity of a complete recovery is equivalent to O(2) encryptions where n is the branch size. This attack can be used against 6and 7-round Feistel Networks in time respectively O(2 +2n) and O(2 n+2n). However when modular addition is used, this attack does not work. In this case, we use an optimized guess-and-determine strategy to attack 5 rounds with complexity O(2 3n/4 ). Our results are, to the best of our knowledge, the first recovery attacks against generic 5-, 6and 7-round Feistel Networks.

New Insights on Impossible Differential Cryptanalysis
Since its introduction, impossible differential cryptanalysis has been applied to many ciphers. Besides the specific application of the technique in various instances, there are some very basic results which apply to generic structures of ciphers, e.g., the well known 5-round impossible differential of Feistel ciphers with bijective round functions. In this paper we present a new approach for t...
متن کاملImpossible Differential Cryptanalysis on Deoxys-BC-256
Deoxys is a final-round candidate of the CAESAR competition. Deoxys is built upon an internal tweakable block cipher Deoxys-BC, where in addition to the plaintext and key, it takes an extra non-secret input called a tweak. This paper presents the first impossible differential cryptanalysis of Deoxys-BC-256 which is used in Deoxys as an internal tweakable block cipher. First, we find a 4.5-round...
متن کاملCryptanalysis of Ladder-DES
Feistel ciphers are very common and very important in the design and analysis of blockciphers, especially due to four reasons: (1) Many (DES-like) ciphers are based on Feistel's construction. (2) Luby and Rackoo proved the security of a four-round Feistel construction when the round functions are random. (3) Recently several provably secure ciphers were suggested, which use other (assumed secur...
متن کاملAn Improved Impossible Differential Attack on MISTY1
MISTY1 is a Feistel block cipher that received a great deal of cryptographic attention. Its recursive structure, as well as the added FL layers, have been successful in thwarting various cryptanalytic techniques. The best known attacks on reduced variants of the cipher are on either a 4-round variant with the FL functions, or a 6-round variant without the FL functions (out of the 8 rounds of th...
متن کاملImproved Meet-in-the-Middle Distinguisher on Feistel Schemes
Improved meet-in-the-middle cryptanalysis with efficient tabulation technique has been shown to be a very powerful form of cryptanalysis against SPN block ciphers. However, few literatures show the effectiveness of this cryptanalysis against Balanced-Feistel-Networks (BFN) and Generalized-Feistel-Networks (GFN) ciphers due to the stagger of affected trail and special truncated differential trai...
